The Dirty 30 A squad had a good match Sunday morning against Southborough United, coming away with a 2 - 1 win. The match was at 8:00 am way out in Northboro, but we had a good showing, and everyone played hard. (Apparently there were no hang-overs.) Southborough United is known as one of the more whiny, primadonna teams in the league. The lone ref overseeing the match was besieged by more F-bombs than a Dave Attell stand-up comedy routine. We managed to keep our composure, however, and not get dragged down into the complaining that our opponents showcased. In fact, we came away without receiving a single card. This is no small feat, considering that last week we received three yellows.

Our first goal after 15 minutes of play was a glorious, right-footed strike from 20 yards out by the tireless winger - our very own Baz. The game was tightly fought, but we managed to score a second goal with a bit under ten minutes remaining. In a play reminiscent of the Fernando Torres goal against Barcelona last week, Uarlinton found himself alone on goal without a defender in sight. He dribbled around the keeper and slid home the insurance goal. This proved to be vital because Southborough managed to convert a controversial penalty kick at the end of regulation. Barry made a good tackle inside the box and seemed to get all ball first, but, after much wailing from the fallen striker, the ref pointed to the spot. Nevertheless, we still managed to kill the clock at the end of the game to preserve the win. We now stand in 2nd place in the league with a game in hand. It should be a tightly contested season, and we're looking forward to a run at the title.

Cheers,
Ben
