Kendall Cs entertained A division powerhouses Phoenix Landing in a closely contested cup match on Saturday. The 3-0 scoreline probably flattered the Phoenix boys, who spent much of the second half under pressure from a much improved Kendall.

A defensive mix up allowed Phoenix Landing to take the lead after 15 minutes. The Landing controlled most of the first half but couldn't capitalize on their lead due to some excellent goalkeeping by Eddie Miretsky and resolute defending by John Blakely, Ben Brill and Donal Keane. Mid way through the first half Kendall lost their inspirational player-coach Michael Curley and Mark Sullivan after a nasty clash of heads. This unsettled Kendall and they failed to find any rhythm for the rest of the half.

An effective half time team talk meant Kendall began the second half rejuvenated. Encouraging words from Eamonn, Donal and Dave seemed to do the trick. Kendall began to pass the ball more effectively and the intensity moved up a notch. John Crowley was beginning to cause the away defense all sorts of problems. Mid way through the half Kendall were disallowed a perfectly good goal for offside. Phoenix Landing capitalized on this slice of fortune by scoring a second goal minutes later. Failure to clear a corner allowed the Landing to score and secure the game. A third goal was tagged on in the final minute. This was not a fair reflection on the second half which Kendall outplayed their A division opponents. Up front John Crowley and Manny held up the ball well. In midfield seamy and Aidan were impressive and struck fear into their opponents when they ran at them. In defense John Blakely produced another excellent performance as did Ben and new boy Ryan in centre-mid. In goal for the second half was Dean who was excellent and shared the man of the match award with Eddie, both superb between the posts on their goalkeeping debuts.
