The first game finished as many of the games toward the end of last season, 1-0 to the Kendall with Minnie scoring the winner.
It sounds like much of last season, however things looked much different for Kendall on the field. 12 of the championship winning squad from 2008 were either unavailable or have moved on. Hopefully four of these will be returning shortly from injury.
This has left an opportunity for new lads to come in and make an impact, which Adam certainly did.
The game eventually hinged on a last minute penalty which was saved by Johno with his feet. MIT's superior fitness had dominated the final 20 minutes of the game. With the clock running down Adam Herstig made sure his debut would be remembered, colliding with an MIT striker in the area to concede the penalty.
Kendall had started with a high tempo 4-4-2 formation and dominated the first 30 minutes. The play was lead from the middle of the park by Gumsy and Kyle, with everyone else following their lead.
Minnie's goal came during this period and resulted from Kendall getting the ball wide to Steve who played a raking ball into the area for Minnie to get on to the end of and slot home.
Half time came as Kendall were starting to show signs of tiredness and losing their shape.
The second half began much the same as the first but with Kendall struggling to maintain their dominance. MIT came into the game, hitting the crossbar and creating chance after chance being thwarted by some last ditch tackles from Steve, Brian and MJ.
The team and squad should get stronger as the season progresses with some new faces to come in and a return from injury of Dave Kelledy, Paddy Curran, Kieran Reid and Gerry Daly.
