An overcast and generally miserable day saw Kendall C line up again Union Brew House (UBH) on a quick plastic pitch. UBH started extremely brightly with both of their front men making good runs and demonstrating why they are a team to be reckoned with this year. Kendall's tactic was very much to break up UBH's total football strategy with Andy and Stoppers working hard to leave their mark and get things moving. Ten minutes in Kendall conceded a soft free kick 25 yards out, the UBH Center forward stepped up and hit an unstoppable free kick over the wall and past Tim. 1-0. Despite the set-back Kendall picked up the pace and worked hard with Andy linking well with the forward line to try and create chances. Kendall had a fair amount of the ball but couldn't create any clear cut chances. UBH continued to look dangerous going forward with solid link up play and good running off the ball. Following some tricky work from their winger an innocuous cross was floated in and met like a steam train by their center forward who angled a perfect header pass Tim to make it 2-0. A little harsh, Kendall restarted and immediately had a good chance with some good work from Seamus to center to Killer only for their netcatcher to make a good save and turn around the post. Kendall finished the half strongly but realised the 2nd half was going to be a big up hill struggle.
The 2nd half started with Stoppers and Andy picking up where they left off, trying to break down UBH's midfield. Kendall's defence was a little more solid with fullbacks Jonny Law and Curley playing much tighter and making sure their wingers didn't get the time needed. Against the run of play Kendall hit another set-back with a breakaway attack from UBH saw their impressive midfielder add to the score with a long range field goal. 3-0 the game was burried. Despite the score Kendall continued to press for a consolation and were duly rewarded following some good pressure. UBH were unable to clear the ball and Rowan burst into the box and cooly slotted past the outrushing goalie to give Kendall a brief hope.
The last 15 minutes saw Kendall work hard but just not able to deliver quality into the box. UBH continued to look dangerous upfront and used their subs well - with some players playing in several different positions. As Kendall pushed to add a second UBH scored in the last few minutes to make it 4-1.
In retrospect UBH were the better side and definitely showed the difference between this division and the one Kendall C were in last year. Their forwards didn't need any second chances and it was actually difficult to remember how many passes UBH made over 20 yards.
